Training and development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Training and development - Essay Example I will mail the self-administered questions to the customer service representatives in our organization. The customer service representatives will complete the mail-in survey within 3 days. I will tabulate, summarize, analyze, and discuss the results of the survey with the top management of the organization with a view of taking necessary actions in the future. I will use my self-administered questionnaires to establish the training needs of customer service representatives in our organization. The survey will help me to determine whether the training offered in the organization meets the needs of customer service representatives. The results of the survey will help me to develop and deliver effective training to this group of employees. I will also determine how to manage the trainees. The survey will equally determine if there is any need to outsource training with an aim of enhancing expertise in our organization. I chose to collect data using a mail-in survey that include both open-ended and close-ended questions. This method is beneficial since it allows me to poll all respondents within a short period. They are also cheap to administer and easy to analyze. The survey will offer first hand data that I can classify and explore further. The close-ended questions in the mail-in survey limit the respondents to specific parameters (Skillnets Ltd, 2013). It is easy to tabulate data collected from such questions since they required specific answers. On the other hand, the open-ended questions in the mail-in survey allow respondents to offer detailed feedback and present new ideas (Skillnets Ltd, 2013). However, tabulating the results from such questions will be challenging. Moreover, many respondents do not like completing such surveys and the return rate is mostly low. However, it is more effective to combine both close-ended and open-ended questions in this analysis. Ideally, it is important for a human

CRITICAL REFLECTION ON THE EFFECTIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF A PATIENT WITH Essay
CRITICAL REFLECTION ON THE EFFECTIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF A PATIENT WITH CHEST DRAIN FOLLOWING A STABBED WOUND AT THE RIGHT SIDE - Essay Example However, the cases of hemothorax and pneumothoraces have dominated the list of recent nursing care emergencies resulting chest injuries as observed by Mowery et al. (2011, p.513). As a senior nurse in the ortho/general surgical department, my healthcare team is bound to encounter such medical emergencies. On the other hand, it is of paramount importance to have relevant expertise in the aforementioned ortho/general surgery portfolio so as to keep an excellent edge in offering the required leadership and professionalism in nursing emergency care. For that reason, this module provides an ideal opportunity to learn and internalize the approved medical manoeuvres in the management of patients with chest drain that has caused pneumothorax. The knowledge will enhance my professional development, nursing competency, clinical exposure and personal confidence in handling similar chest drain cases in the future. This paper focuses on experiential reflection on the effective nursing care manage ment of chest drain patient with pneumothorax with reference to the analytical application of Gibbs Model 1998 (Nicol 2012). Accordingly, the chronology of this reflection examines the details of the case, the resulting personal feeling about it and the professional sense drawn from such clinical experience. Objective application of this model enables the learner to acquire practical insights that will go a long way to improve the fidelity of the portfolio as well as her professional performance in the relevant medical department (Gibbs 1988; Oelofsen 2012, p.22). Case Summary The simulation hitherto involves a 50 year old male patient brought to the ortho/general surgery department with a stub wound on the right side of the chest. From clinical diagnosis, the patient developed chest drain from the stub penetration which has consequently caused pneumothorax. Based on the facts that the chest injury was penetrative with no medical history of spontaneous pneumothorax, this clinical em ergency could be classified as open traumatic pneumothorax as reiterated by Sharma and Jindal (2008, p.35). This is the situation at hand for which the medical team seeks to apply the best line of care and treatment to stabilize the patient towards full recovery from traumatic pneumothorax. Reflective Nursing Care Management for Chest Drain Patient Description of what happened The patient presented at the hospital with chest injury sustained from an apparent stub wound. As such, pre-treatment nursing care management required rapid assessment of the situation to accurately diagnose the case and establish the magnitude of the

Comparison of Romanesque Angouleme Cathedral and Gothic Amiens Research Paper
Comparison of Romanesque Angouleme Cathedral and Gothic Amiens Cathedral - Research Paper Example Angouleme illustrates the ideal 12th century renaissance that was typical throughout the western countries, and this influenced lateral derivation of the Romanesque artistic work from the antique. The cathedral was built under Bishop Gerald and represented the Popeââ¬â¢s authority; mainly in the archdiocese of Bordeaux, Auch, Tours, and Bourages (Tcherikover, 62). It was a symbol of or an instrument of control by the reform Papacy of the late eleventh century, and went beyond to Geraldââ¬â¢s time. This made the cathedral to represent the temporary rise of a secondary provincial cathedral due to the specific conditions available in the reform period. On the other hand, the Gothic cathedral of Amiens was built between 1220- 1269 and was built after the destruction of the old cathedral in 1218; with the nave chapels, west towers and the central steeple being built later on (Murray,12). Being governed by the commune Notre Dame, the cathedral was the seat of the bishop and was a spe cial center for the chapter of forty canons. As Murray (111) elaborates, the construction of the Cathedral of Amiens was contentious, with designs being altered and this made the cathedral to be built in several sessions, with the last being in 1269 when the cathedral was competed. The Romanesque architecture was derogatory term since the building of the Romanesque periods had elements and style that reflected the Roman culture. Hamlin (237) argues that the transition was not a smooth one, and there was thin line between the transition periods. However, the Romanesque architecture had created much ecclesiastical architecture in hick they imposed on believers in these cathedrals. Some architects in this age and especially Germans, the French and the Britons designed new approaches that slowly combined the Romanesque architecture into their cathedrals, but left some to include new design approaches. As Hamlin (237) argues, though many preferred the traditional Romanesque style, the ne w form slowly crept in as features were either omitted or changes were affected to the Romanesque style, and with time each cathedral was built in the new Gothic approach and this marked the transition from the Romanesque style into the Gothic style of architecture. Incidentally, the Notre Dame or Cathedral of Amiens was allowed to be constructed fully using the new gothic artistic work (Cecile, 41). The two cathedrals will hereby be compared to portray the difference in design and the decorations that include the sculptural works. Comparing the two cathedrals in design and decorations, the Angouleme cathedral portrays decorations that make the cathedral more spiritualistic, while the Amiens cathedral has more individualized designs and decorations that portray creativity and a move to modernity in architectural work. Design i. Arcs and naves As Davies (1998) argues, the remarkable feature that makes the cathedral of Amiens different from the cathedral of Angouleme and as a complete gothic artistic work was the design. Davis further elaborates that the cathedralââ¬â¢s complex grandeur in forms, spaces stone figures and the lifelike shapes makes the cathedral to portray an experience that embraced both the future and the past in its design. Cecile (42) further argues that the Cathedral of

Labor relations 3 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Labor relations 3 - Essay Example Hence, a grievance can be denoted as a dispute that crops up in a work related environment in relation to the interpretation, appliance, management or alleged violation of the specific terms of the collective agreement (Holley et al 468). Basically, it is a complaint that is filed by an employee as per his/her interpretation of the collective agreement. A grievance that is not settled in the course of its own procedures could be referred within given timelines as indicated by the collective agreement to Arbitration. Never the less, if a grievance procedure has been followed without any resolute being attained, then a single arbitrator or arbitration board should hear and determine the dispute that is referred to it, as his/her or its decision is final and should, therefore, be binding upon all the parties that are involved. Hence, it is seen as an absolute stage of resolution. Moreover, every grievance procedure operates within a specific time limit, which is present in each collecti ve agreement. These limits are put in place to deal with grievances promptly. They should be taken into consideration by both the employer and the union to ensure that limits are adhered to unless under specific permission that must be agreed upon by one or the other party. In case, this is not done chances are that the whole grievance procedure becomes invalid especially if it is in reference to arbitration. Either party is in a position to raise the lack of adherence to timeliness as a preliminary objection of having the grievance dismissed. Benefits of Grievances The grievance procedure has benefits, which helps the process to be in place. First, the process is capable of generating stability in day-to day employeesââ¬â¢ relations as it ensures that employees have a sense of assurance within the collective agreement life of a mechanism that resolves issues rather than allowing them to continue. In fact, the presence of a grievance process at any work place ensures that dispute s do not escalate but rather get resolved at the appropriate time. Second, the process plays an important role in creating a sense of democracy in the work place especially when it allows employees to air their grievances without the fear of intimidation by the employers. Third, the process gives employees a chance to hold open discussions on issues that are related to their work, and improve communication between the employer and the employee (Holley et al 469). Furthermore, interpretation of a collective agreement is allowed as it presents an option of submitting problems to neutral third party. This builds up strong labor relations, improves morale and increases overall productivity. The common sources of grievances include: discipline and discharge, working hour and overtime, postings of job and seniority. Steps in a Grievance Procedure Every collective agreement denotes the steps as per their respective grievance procedures A typical grievance procedure of an individual employe e includes the following: Informal discussion Prior to a formal grievance filing, an employee must discuss the issue with the supervisor. At times, the grievance may be

How Can Facebook Be Good for Business Research Paper
How Can Facebook Be Good for Business - Research Paper Example This paper will discuss how Facebook can be good for businesses. This will also analyze the scope of marketing activities in this new age of online branding. Facebook provides users with a common platform to express their views and share their opinions easily so as to significantly take part in the social formation process. As compared to traditional promotion techniques, companies obtain a great pool of audience while marketing through the Facebook channel. In other words, firms can cheaply advertise their products and services to people across the globe using Facebook. In contrast to conventional promotion techniques, Facebook-based promotion assists companies to collect customer feedbacks regarding various product/service instantly. Today all successful companies have a well maintained Facebook page and they keep their pages updated in order to be in good touch with customers. Market analysts point out that Facebook is very helpful for companies in dealing with brand positioning i n the current business environment. Modern people spend more time browsing the internet, particularly Facebook rather than watching television. Therefore, TV ads would be less effective (in terms of cost and productivity) today. The most fascinating advantage of Facebook-based brand positioning is that it significantly benefits businesses to cut down their operating costs while achieving the planned benefits quickly. To illustrate, an organization can very cheaply maintain a Facebook page and develop its followersââ¬â¢ group as there is no extra charge for doing so. According to Schivinski and Dabrowski, with the emergence of Facebook, communication with customers has become an easy task for organizations and this situation, in turn, drives the formation of timely and potential operational strategies. Undoubtedly, most of the marketing managers will agree that a notable percent of their new business comes from existing customers. In the opinion of Lynn and Davis, mouth publicity is the most powerful tool of advertising because consumers are the ones who can best evaluate a product/service. It is evident that Facebook provides users with extensive exposure to discover and share information and this feature of social media contributes to the feasibility of ââ¬Ëword of mouth referralsââ¬â¢. The Guardian reports that ââ¬Å"there are more than 3.2 billion likes and comments posted to Facebook every day, many of those to the 37m brand pagesâ⬠. It directly reflects the unimaginable scope of Facebook-based brand promotion. Since a companyââ¬â¢s Facebook page will reflect its business and what it stands for, the management must pay higher attention to creating and maintaining its brand page. To illustrate, the firm may set a cover photo that depicts the essence of its brand and quality of products/services offered. Firms can include the ââ¬Å"find us on Facebookâ⬠option on its website, emails, and newsletters in order to encourage its existing customers to like the firmââ¬â¢s brand page. Hence, the company gets a huge group of existing and prospective customers subscribed to its brand page.

Career Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Career - Essay Example The world has also become more permissive to the globalization of products and such globalization has become manifest in almost all the products we use in our daily lives, from our cars to our foods, and our office supplies. This paper shall discuss how my preferred career ââ¬â business marketing ââ¬â has been affected by globalization. More specifically, it shall discuss how the supply end of the market has been affected by globalization. This paper shall then specifically discuss supply chaining and how its practice has been affected by globalization. Globalization has affected business marketing in terms of how supplies are marketed, used and acquired. In the practice known as supply-chaining, Friedman discusses how globalization has made the world flat. He discusses that supply chaining is a ââ¬Å"method of collaborating horizontally ââ¬â among suppliers, retailers, and customers ââ¬â to create valueâ⬠(Friedman, p. 152). He explains how supply chaining has been enabled by the flattening of the world and how it has easily been carried out by the fact that the world is flat. He also cites the example of Wal-Mart, and how the worldââ¬â¢s biggest retail company which practically makes ââ¬Å"nothing,â⬠has managed to become a very efficient supply chain. In the Christmas season, Hewlett-Packard usually sells about 400,000 computers daily in these Wal-Mart stores (Friedman, p. 152). And supply chaining has become very much beneficial for buyers because they can buy products at the best quality and at low cost; and retailers can afford to sell their products at the lowest possible cost because of cheaper production costs (Friedman, pp. 155-158). All in all, most people ââ¬â from the suppliers to the end consumers ââ¬â benefit from the global supply chain. In Sun Microsystems, Inc., they have managed to introduce the technological innovation known as ââ¬Ëone-touch supply chainââ¬â¢ where the company was able to restructure the manufacturing process.
